Malta in November: Weather, Events and What to Do

November is Malta’s quiet month, and for plenty of visitors that is the appeal: shorter queues, days that are still warm enough for a long walk, and a calendar with real events in it. This is a guide to Malta in November 2026, covering what the weather does, what is on, and how to plan around both.

Novotel Malta Sliema works as the base: the seafront promenade is steps away and the Valletta ferry is within easy reach.

Malta in November: Weather and What to Pack

Expect daytime highs of around 20 to 21°C and evenings nearer 17°C. Sunshine averages roughly six hours a day, and the sea sits at about 21°C. Most locals have stopped swimming by now, so treat a dip as a bonus rather than a plan.

November is also Malta’s wettest month, with around 80 mm of rain on average. It tends to arrive in short, sharp showers rather than all-day downpours, and the weather can swing within a week: a warm start to the month and a cold front near the end are both normal. Pack light layers, a rain jacket and shoes that cope with wet pavements.

Malta in November 2026: Events Worth Planning Around

The Three Palaces Festival finishes on Sunday 1 November with a Maltese folktales session, La Monica: The Night She Left and a jazz night at Auberge d’Aragon in Valletta.

From Wednesday 4 to Sunday 8 November, the Malta Book Festival takes over the Malta Fairs and Conventions Centre in Ta’ Qali, organised by the National Book Council. Crime writer Ian Rankin is among this year’s guests. Opening hours vary by day: 09:00 to 21:00 on Wednesday and Saturday, 09:00 to 13:00 and 17:00 to 21:00 on Thursday and Friday, and 09:00 to 20:00 on Sunday. Ta’ Qali is inland, so plan a bus or taxi.

Wednesday 11 November is San Martin, one of the more charming dates in the Maltese calendar. Children get il-borża ta’ San Martin, a bag of walnuts, almonds, chestnuts and figs, and Maltese families talk about is-sajf ta’ San Martin, the spell of warm weather that often turns up around the feast. Baħrija, in Rabat, holds a traditional fair on the Sunday before the feast, so check the date with the parish before you go.

Runners have the Żurrieq Half Marathon and 10 km on Sunday 15 November, starting at 07:00 outside the parish church in Żurrieq, with a children’s race alongside. That is an early start from the north, so book transport the night before. Novotel’s Fitness Centre is there for the days either side.

Planning Your Days Around the Weather

Treat the dry mornings as the ones to spend outside. Walk the promenade, then take the ferry across to Valletta while the light is good. Our guide to things to do around Novotel Malta Sliema has more for a clear day.

Keep the showery afternoons for indoor plans: the Book Festival, a long lunch, or a spa session. Christmas markets in Malta usually start in early November, so a few small ones may already be open by the end of the month. Check dates before you head out.
